2024 Unity for Life

Learning, Loving and Life

Lifehouse participant, Jen*, came to Lifehouse to escape a violent situation. At just 17, Jen had already lived quite a life. Her mother asked her to leave at age 15. Then, just two years later, Jen found herself in an abusive relationship and pregnant at age 17.

Estranged from her father for most of her life, Jen reconnected with him and began building a relationship. When he learned she was pregnant and in unsafe circumstances, he found Lifehouse and brought Jen for a tour. He wept as we explained how Lifehouse would help his daughter learn about parenting, give her the opportunity to finish high school, and teach her vital life skills.

Thank You To Our Special Friend of Lifehouse

I think Jen’s story tells so much about the learning, love and life found at Lifehouse. We are so grateful for the special friend of Lifehouse who is matching donations up to $50,000 during our 2024 Unity for Life appeal.

We are confident that our supporters will exceed that match by doubling it! Help us reach our goal to raise $150,000 for Lifehouse by June 30th, 2024.

Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity! May God bless and keep you, may His face shine upon you and give you peace.

Jen struggled with the expectations of the Lifehouse program, left after about a month, and returned to a very abusive environment. After a few days, however, Jen reached out to Lifehouse and asked if she could come back because she was not safe. We welcomed her back with open arms.

Since returning, Jen has worked hard on her online high school courses and has enjoyed learning about God and his plan for her and her baby’s lives. She participates in our nightly devotions, in which all Lifehouse participants are reading a chapter of the Bible every day and writing answers to follow-up questions. Jen is attending church and Bible study every week and prays on her own before all her meals.

Jen had her baby, and less than a week later, she completed all her assignments which enabled her to graduate high school! She has now set her sights on learning construction work and electrical contracting – just like her dad.

“I love it at Lifehouse!” Jen states. “Lifehouse is a great place to start fresh from my experience. They helped me finish high school, and I have a lot of support for me and my baby. They provide for my needs, and I will be able to move to a transitional unit – just for me and my daughter.”

All Lifehouse participants take part in Lifepath, our research-proven program to teach parenting and life skills at all ages and stages. This program gives these young women the time, resources and skills to learn how to create successful, sustainable lives for themselves and their children.

Jen is among nearly 230 mothers, and her baby is one of the 97 babies born since Lifehouse opened its doors in 2008. Currently, Lifehouse has two participants in nursing school, others in high school, one working on her GED, another learning English as her second language, one in management at a restaurant, and others working hard and building solid employment histories.

Jen notes that, “Lifehouse is a program that helps women with kids better their lives while having a strong support system. Lifehouse motivates them to stay focused and move forward in life.”

Lifehouse participants learn about God through weekly church attendance and volunteer led weekly Bible study. House Moms lead nightly devotions and encourage participants to pray. Lifehouse is filled with learning, loving and life. Won’t you be a part of opening doors for women and their children?
